The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in located in central Kansas, just west of Emporia. This is one of the few remaining native prairies, unbroken by the steel plows of early settlers or modern farmers, and has existed as in this picture for millions of years. Grabbed this photo in mid-afternoon in October at Rocky Mountain National Park from the trail to Bierstadt Lake. The trail climbs nearly 2,000 feet from the road to a high mountain lake.
