Near the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin and not far from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin is located a wonderful roadside market. Peck’s is the type of local market where you’ll find the harvest out front, fresh baked pies within, and locals gathered around a radio or small television in the back to watch the local college football game. A thunderstorm had been plaguing us all weekend and drove us to seek refuge here, but in hindsight turned out to be a blessing. We visited in the height of the Fall harvest and found the crates teeming with freshly harvested squash from the nearby fields. Behind this market – in true roadside kitsch fashion – is a petting zoo with deer, chickens and the most soulful bison I’ve met.
